Today marks a very significant day in our project. Our CEO met with Elda Neyis Mosquera Garcia, Alias "Karina", the former commander of the 47th Front of FARC. Elda surrendered to the Colombian Military on May 18, 2008. She was subsequently tried in court and found guilty of massacres, kidnapping, murder, among other crimes, and sentenced to 33 years in jail. On March 6, 2009 it was announced that she was to be released from prison to serve as a "promoter of peace," and to serve as an example to other rebels to entice them to surrender. She believes that our Sacha Inchi "the Seeds of Peace" project will change the landscape of Colombia and enroll a lot more farmers, EX- FARC fighters and other groups in Colombia.
Kate Bahnsen comments: “It was very interesting to meet Elda and to see that she wants to make a change in Colombia and to promote peace, innovation and progress in Colombia. She was very thoughtful and want to make amends to the people she hurt and knows this project can show that she has changed and peace can be possible in Colombia.”
